In addition to our Special Events, we’re always working for Obama.  Voter Registration is the priority through October 6th (the deadline to participate in the November election).  Please drop by anytime (there’s always work to do), or make a point to come to one of the following regular events.

Over the last couple of days I’ve received more calls and emails than I can count from people with fear in their voices. They want to know what to make of McCain’s post- convention bounce in the polls. They want to know if Obama can still win. Most of all they want to know what they can do to help.

What:  Beach Blanket Bingo for Barack Voter Registration - we’ll be registering voters all along Miami Beach
Meeting Location: Starbucks at 201 Ocean Drive
Parking:  Parking on Collins, Meridian, Washington Avenues and 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Street. Bring quarters.
Time:  3:00pm-5:00pm – we’re meeting at 3pm and if you need to leave early that’s ok, you can drop the voter registration forms off at Patlak’s, 221 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach.

EVERY SUNDAY

What: Barackfast - Canvassing
Location:  Big Pink Restaurant, 2nd Street and Collins Avenue
Parking:  Parking on Collins, Meridian, Washington Avenues and 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Street. Bring quarters.
Time:  9:00am -10:00am

What: North Beach Canvassing
Location: North Beach – 300 71st St, Suite 405 (in City National Bank Building)
Parking: Behind City National Bank Building
Time: 3:30-6:00pm

24/7 phone banking

Over the next 2 months, we’re going to have to make about 200,000 phone calls in our area to elect Barack.  Starting now, we’ll be calling voters regularly on weekdays between 9am-9pm and on weekends from 12pm-9pm.  All volunteers are welcome to use the two landlines in our office; just let me know when you’d like to come in.  If you would like to make phone calls from home instead and you can commit to making at least 3 hours of phone calls from home per week, then we can also drop off a phone list to you.

A number of you have mentioned that you’d love to help but just can’t find the time, and I completely understand that–work and family commitments stack up, and sometimes it’s just not possible to commit to a full three-or four-hour volunteer shift.  But there are several ways you can help if you just have a few minutes:

• Talk to your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, barista, barber, bus driver–anyone who will listen, really–about why you support Obama. Campaign staffers can talk policy until we’re blue in the face, but nothing compares to hearing someone you know and trust explain why Obama speaks for them, their issues and their priorities. If you’d like some help figuring out how to approach people, let me know and I’d be happy to strategize.
• Register voters on your lunch break. Bring a bag lunch and round up some co-workers, and I will meet you at a grocery store or busy corner near your office to do a quick voter registration session. In one hour, five people can usually register around 15 people to vote.
• Register people you know to vote. If anyone you know isn’t registered, needs a replacement voter card, wants to change parties, or has recently moved, I can get you forms with which to register them as well as teach you how to do it.
• Phonebank. If you have internet access and a landline or some spare cell-phone minutes, I can set you up with a list of people to call–all you’ve got to do is ask them a couple questions about whom they’re supporting and which issues are important to them.
• Put a bumper sticker on your car. It may sound superficial, but bumper stickers, buttons, yard signs and T-shirts let people know that the campaign has a presence here, and that South Florida is Obama territory. There are all sorts of goodies available at store.barackobama.com.
• Donate supplies, space or food to the campaign. We’re looking for office furniture, office supplies, bottled water, sunscreen, Staples giftcards, clipboards, printers, ink, paper, pens, art supplies, energy bars, phone cards, gas cards, Kinko’s cards, coffeemakers, etc. If you’ve got an office with landlines that you wouldn’t mind lending to us for a few hours for a phonebank, we’d also appreciate it immensely. Even if you can’t give us your time, in-kind donations like this allow us to do our jobs much better, which is absolutely invaluable.
• Ask people you know about volunteering. Even if you don’t have the time to volunteer regularly, you can help recruit people who can. If you have any particularly fired up friends or family members, don’t hesitate to send them my way.
